BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The School of Education was one of the first three Schools to be established when the Zambian Open University (ZAOU) opened in 2005. In February that year, 254 students were enrolled, the majority of whom were registered in the School of Education. At the University’s first graduation ceremony held on 10th September, 2009, the School of Education graduated a total of 84 students broken down as follows:
(1) MEd – Literacy and Development: 05;
(2) B.Ed. – Adult Education: 22;
(3) Bed – Guidance and Counselling: 09;
(4) B.Ed. – Primary Education: 15;
(5) Bed – Secondary Education: 33. The School was the first to produce Master’s degree graduates (2009) and PhD graduates (2013) in the University. The number of graduates from the School has been increasing each year.
Currently, the School has two departments, namely the Department of Primary and Early Child Education (PECE) and the Department of Secondary Education.
